Ignorance in adhering to road safety is fast becoming a major headache for India. Failure to ignore basic road safety regulations is becoming a major reason for families losing their loved ones, leading them to think about what would have happened if only they had followed the appropriate measures to stay safe. In a country where we lose almost one and a half people every year due to road accidents, there is a major need to educate people about following and adhering to road safety before this goes on to claim even more lives than before.
Among all these problems and what exactly needs to be done to avoid major mishaps due to road safety ignorance, a recent picture of a road in Mizoram has been doing the rounds, which has led many people to believe that maybe the answer was with us all along, and we were just too blind enough to actually look out for it.
Traffic rules can only work if the people of that particular region are actually making an effort to follow them. If there is no effort, there is no result. An image posted on Twitter by a user named Sandeep Ahlawat shows a crowded street in Mizoram, packed with vehicles to the brim, displaying an exemplary sense of awareness and adherence to traffic rules. In spite of the traffic being huge, there is no instance of a single driver who has broken the road traffic regulations, or even gone ahead and cut lanes.
What a terrific pic; Not even one vehicle straying over the road marker. Inspirational, with a strong message: it’s up to US to improve the quality of our lives. Play by the rules… A big shoutout to Mizoram. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 https://t.co/kVu4AbEYq8

With the picture, Ahlawat posted, “I have seen this kind of discipline only in Mizoram. There are no fancy cars, no big egos, no road rage, no honking, and no Tu Jaanta nahi hai mera baap kaun hai”. no one is in a tearing hurry…. there is calm and serenity all around”. And indeed it was calm and serene. The picture went viral, capturing the attention of many people across the country, and most notably, one of the country’s biggest Businessmen in Anand Mahindra.
The entrepreneur was so moved by this gesture that even he went on to Twitter and gave special kudos to the state for following the rules with utmost discipline. After retweeting the original Tweet, he added “What a terrific pic; Not even one vehicle straying over the road marker. Inspirational, with a strong message: it’s up to US to improve the quality of our lives. Play by the rules… A big shoutout to Mizoram.
Maybe we all should take a leaf out of Mizoram’s book and take the same care and efforts while traveling so that we don’t lose any more lives and waste unnecessary time which is valuable for all parties involved.
