An old social media post by newly-elected BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut has resurfaced, gaining attention following an incident at Chandigarh airport where a woman CISF constable allegedly slapped her. The post in question defends Hollywood star Will Smith for slapping comedian Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars.
In her post, Kangana had supported Mr. Smith’s actions, stating she would react similarly if someone mocked her family’s medical condition for entertainment.
The incident in question occurred after Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia, a condition causing hair loss.
The controversy erupted when Kangana was at the Chandigarh airport on Thursday to catch a flight to Delhi for a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting. A video circulating online shows her approaching a check-in counter where the alleged slap took place.
The now-suspended constable, Kulwinder Kaur, claimed she slapped the BJP leader due to Kangana’s remarks on the farmers’ protest. This incident sparked widespread debate on social media, with many expressing opposition to violence despite differing ideologies.
Following the incident, users began sharing screenshots of Kangana’s 2022 Instagram post, where she expressed support for Will Smith’s reaction at the Oscars. She wrote,
“If some idiot used my mom or sister’s illness to make a bunch of fools laugh, I would slap him like @willsmith did,” adding clapping emojis and calling it a “bada** move.” She also expressed hope that Smith would appear on her show ‘Lock Upp.’
As per Kangana Ranaut Will Smith can hit someone for making a joke on his wife but another woman can’t hit her for calling her mother “100rs m baithne wali” & asking to behead her farmer father ?? Hypocrisy ki seema guyss https://t.co/YmvsKCATfS pic.twitter.com/HWrsGQqS0t

In response to support for constable Kulwinder Kaur, Kangana questioned if those defending the incident would also justify crimes like rape or murder, emphasizing that every crime has a motive but still deserves punishment.
An FIR has been filed against the suspended constable under Sections 321 and 341 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In the recent 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Kangana won the Mandi seat in Himachal Pradesh, defeating Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh by 74,755 votes.
