Amazon’s response came swiftly after a customer alleged receiving a pre-owned laptop instead of the new one he had purchased. The incident sheds light on the monumental shift in India’s retail landscape brought about by the rise of online shopping.
With the advent of e-commerce giants like Flipkart, Snapdeal, and Amazon, purchasing goods has become more accessible and convenient for Indian consumers. However, despite the myriad benefits, challenges such as logistical constraints and the proliferation of counterfeit products persist in the online marketplace.
The aggrieved customer, Rohan Das, took to social media to voice his grievances, posting a video detailing his experience with Amazon and Lenovo.
In the video, he showcased evidence indicating that the laptop he received had already been used, contrary to his expectations of a brand-new device. The post garnered significant attention, prompting Amazon to issue an apology and request further information to address the situation promptly.
He tweeted.
“I Was Scammed By Amazon! @amazonIN selling used products as new. Today I received a “new” laptop from Amazon, but it had already been used and the warranty started in December 2023. @Lenovo @Lenovo_in”

In response, Rohan urged Amazon to expedite the resolution process, emphasizing the urgency of the matter. Meanwhile, Lenovo, the manufacturer of the laptop in question, clarified its warranty policies, asserting that warranty commencement aligns with the customer’s purchase date rather than the manufacturing date.
This incident underscores the recurring issue of fraudulent practices in online retail, with Amazon occasionally facing scrutiny over the quality of products delivered to customers.
Bhai I have purchased a hp laptop offline from an authorised store I have the same issue with them when I asked them they told me the warranty will be from the invoice date. Because this warranty is as per date of manufacturing which is showing. Please share your thoughts

@amazonIN Do you resell the laptops you have already sold to the customers? Is this not dangerous from the security point of view? How can a customer trust you like this?

Once we bought a new piece from Lenovo store. Same issue. Warranty started few months ago already. Went to the store. They said upon import, the warranty commences but writing to Lenovo warranty commence from invoice date. Try writing to Lenovo.

Here’s how Amazon reacted to the issue:
We're sorry for the unpleasant experience regarding your issue with the product that you have received. Please share your details here: https://t.co/ZuzhoxZ9Og, and we'll get back to you within 6-12 hours. -Sumit

Stop talking nonsense and quickly take back your used laptop, and issue me a refund within 2 hours because I need to order another new laptop.

Lenovo also issued a response:
Hello there, We maintain the machine's manufacture date in our database; however, the real warranty begins on the day of the customer purchase date, & we manually update it after sharing a Bill invoice copy and lowercase serial number sticker snaps to [email protected] Sonu_Lenovo

While some cases are swiftly resolved, others highlight ongoing challenges that necessitate concerted efforts from e-commerce platforms and manufacturers to uphold consumer trust and satisfaction.
