A recent incident involving a Zomato customer in Gurgaon, who received a “fresh” kebab from Lucknow within a mere 30 minutes, has reignited concerns about the complexities of logistics and authenticity in food deliveries.

Zomato‘s rapid delivery promise, particularly under the ‘Legends’ category, faced criticism from Sourav Mall, a 24-year-old Gurgaon resident.
Mall’s skepticism arose when he received a kebab meal from Lucknow in less than half an hour, considering the considerable distance between the two cities. Consequently, he initiated legal action against Zomato’s ‘Legends’ policy, which pledges quick deliveries from specific cities irrespective of distance.
Responding to Mall’s concerns, the Saket local court summoned Zomato last month. Mall argued that since his order included food from both Delhi and Lucknow as part of the “Zomato Legends” sub-service, it was likely stored in different Zomato warehouses rather than being transported from the designated locations.
Mall alleges that Zomato misleads consumers with assurances of hot, authentic food from renowned eateries. He seeks a court order to cease the platform’s “Zomato Legends” services.
To bolster his claims of impropriety, Mall highlights that the meal arrived in Zomato’s packaging rather than that of the restaurant. Additionally, phrases like “freshly prepared,” “utilizes mobile refrigeration technology,” “non-frozen,” and “no preservatives added” adorned the paper bag labeled “Zomato Legends.”
The legal proceedings cast doubt on potential misrepresentation and expose a disparity between Zomato’s “Legends” claims and the actual delivery process.
