Dhanashree Verma, renowned choreographer and wife of Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, is frequently seen alongside him in Instagram posts and reels. She often accompanies him to his matches, demonstrating their strong bond. With the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), where Yuzvendra will be representing Rajasthan Royals, Dhanashree’s presence at some of his matches is anticipated.
However, a recent incident involving a viral photo of Dhanashree with choreographer Pratik Utekar stirred controversy, leading to online trolling directed at her.
Expressing her dismay at the trolling, Dhanashree took to Instagram to address the issue. In her post, she emphasized the importance of empathy and humanity in online interactions.
While she’s accustomed to ignoring or laughing off trolls, this recent incident hit her differently because it extended its impact to her family and loved ones. She highlighted the tendency of social media users to overlook the sentiments of others, urging for a more compassionate approach.
Acknowledging the significance of social media in her professional life, Dhanashree underscored the need to combat negativity and promote positivity on these platforms. Despite her brief hiatus from social media for mental peace, she returned, urging followers to focus on talent and skill rather than spreading hate. She reminded everyone that behind the public persona lies a person with feelings, deserving of respect and fairness. She stated,
“It’s that simple to ask and be a human first, then to put forward certain verdicts or opinions.
“I have never in my life been affected by trolls or memes because definitely had a lot of maturity in ignoring or laughing it out loud until this very recent troll occurred. The reason it has affected me this time is because it has affected my family and my near and dear ones. Since you all have the freedom on social media platforms to speak your heart and characters out, that you tend to forget or choose to ignore the sentiments of us and our families. This led to the decision of me taking a detox from social media and trust me, it was very peaceful.”
She further says,
“But this also made me realize that if we make this medium so negative, then all we are doing is spreading hate and disharmony on a large scale. Social media is a major part of my work and I can’t give up which is why I have gathered courage today and my creative side here to come back on Instagram. Just requesting you guys to be little more sensitive and focus on our talent and skill because at the end of the day guys we are all here on this medium just to entertain you guys. So just don’t forget I’m also just a woman, just like your mother, your sister, your friend, your wife. And this is not done. It’s not fair. So guys, please, you know, I am known as a fighter and I never give up.”

Dhanashree’s journey extends beyond her marriage to Chahal; she gained recognition as a wildcard contestant on the dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’. In an interview, she disclosed Chahal’s supportive stance towards her participation, encouraging her to excel on the show. Reflecting on the competition, she recognized her fellow contestants’ abilities while staying focused on her own growth and performance.
“Yuzvendra is very supportive and unhone kaha mujhe aap jao show karo acche se (he said that you go and perform well on the show). He told me I’m the best and I should do good on the show. We both support each other a lot,” Dhanashree said in the interview with ETimes.
“The competition is quite tough on ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’. Adrija Sinha is a good dancer and I consider her as my competition. Also, if I see the overall competition, everyone is doing really great and it’s quite tough to pick just one name. Everyone has grown on the show and have come so far in the competition. But I know I’m part of a competition and it first starts with myself and then other contestants,”
she concluded.
Dhanashree Verma’s recent confrontation with online harassment prompted her to advocate for a more compassionate online culture, emphasizing the human aspect behind every digital interaction. Her resilience and determination shine through, both in her professional endeavors and in supporting her spouse, Yuzvendra Chahal, in his cricketing pursuits.
