With its two Oscar wins in 2023, Indian cinema recently created history and made every Indian proud.
The blockbuster film RRR by SS Rajamouli has won the coveted award for the Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu, while ‘The Elephant Whispers’ by Guneet Monga has been honored with the Best Documentary (Short) award.
People across the nation have been celebrating this astonishing achievement, and many have taken to social media to express their happiness and pride.
The Indian film industry and fans wholeheartedly celebrated team RRR’s flabbergasting accomplishment, which is proof of the skill and talent of Indian filmmakers.
However, amid all the celebrations, the debate around regional pride has again become a topic of discussion and debate. While the majority of people are busy with celebrations, popular singer Adnan Sami recently took a dig over Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s congratulatory tweet to RRR, which led to a tsunami of mixed reactions.
Adnan Sami slams Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for bringing regional pride amid celebrations.
It all started when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy congratulated Team RRR for winning the Oscars. Taking to Twitter, he wrote,
“The #Telugu flag is flying higher! I’m filled with pride about a Telugu song, that so beautifully celebrates our folk heritage, being given its due recognition internationally today. @ssrajamouli, @tarak9999, @AlwaysRamCharan and @mmkeeravaani have truly redefined excellence! 1/2”

However, soon the tweet grabbed a lot of negative reactions.
Singer Adnan Sami voiced his disappointment with the post and accused the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh of inciting a “regional split” in the nation
On Twitter, Sami wrote,
“What a regional-minded frog in a pond who can’t think about the ocean because it’s beyond his tiny nose!! Shame on you for creating regional divides & unable to embrace or preach national pride! Jai HIND!!”

Moreover, Adnan’s comments also didn’t sit well with the majority of netizens, who accused him of using inappropriate words for the Chief Minister and hurting regional sentiments.
Afterward, Sami clarified his post, claiming that he never intended to hurt anyone. He wrote,
“My issue has never been about the language. My issue has been very simple… All languages, regardless of their origin & dialect are ultimately under the one umbrella of being INDIAN FIRST & then anything else- That’s all! I have sung innumerable songs in regional languages with the same effort & respect equally for all..”
