Actor Vijay vehemently opposes the recent notification regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), urging Tamil Nadu to refrain from enforcing it. His response follows the Central government’s announcement of the rules for implementing the CAA, which was initially passed in December 2019.
Expressing his discontent, Vijay criticized the Narendra Modi-led government for pushing forward a law like the CAA in a country where communal harmony prevails among its citizens.
“It is not acceptable to implement any law like the Indian Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 (CAA) in an environment where all citizens of the country live with social harmony,”
he said.
He also requested the Tamil Nadu government to ensure that the law does not get implemented in Tamil Nadu.
“The leaders should ensure that this law does not get implemented in Tamil Nadu,”
the statement added.

Various opposition figures, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, have condemned the Centre’s decision, accusing the BJP of attempting to sow division in society ahead of upcoming elections. Stalin characterized Prime Minister Modi’s actions as a desperate bid to salvage his political standing, exploiting religious sentiments for electoral gain.
Union BJP Government's divisive agenda has weaponised the Citizenship Act, turning it from a beacon of humanity to a tool of discrimination based on religion and race through the enactment of #CAA. By betraying Muslims and Sri Lankan Tamils, they sowed seeds of division.

The rules outlined by the Union Home Ministry for CAA implementation aim to provide citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from neighboring countries. Eligible communities include Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians who arrived in India before December 31, 2014. These rules also mandate applicants to obtain eligibility certificates from recognized community institutions and make a formal declaration renouncing their previous citizenship in favor of India.
In light of these developments, Vijay’s stance against the CAA notification echoes broader concerns about its potential impact on social cohesion and communal harmony in Tamil Nadu and beyond.
