After delivering back-to-back blockbuster movies, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is all set to make his debut with the web series “Heeramandi.
“Heeramandi” is said to be the most expensive Indian streaming show ever, made with a budget of Rs. 200 crore. It’s set in Lahore during the 1920s and focuses on a group of courtesans and the men associated with them. Actresses like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Segal play the roles of tawaifs, who are admired for their beauty and sophistication but also face disrespect due to their profession.
In an exclusive interview with Netflix’s CEO, Ted Sarandos, Sanjay Leela Bhansali described his debut web series, “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” as the “biggest project” of his life. He emphasized that the series would pay tribute to iconic Indian films like “Mother India” (1957), “Mughal-e-Azam” (1960), and “Pakeezah” (1972), higlighting his deep appreciation for Indian cinema’s rich heritage and grand storytelling.

Talking about the salary of the cast of Heeramandi, the fees of Sonakshi Sinha stands out in comparison to other actors in the series. The actress charged a sum of Rs. 2 crores for playing the role of ‘Fareedan’. Sharmin Sehgal, who played ‘Alamzeb’, was reportedly paid around Rs. 35 lakhs, while Sanjeeda Sheikh earned Rs. 40 lakhs for her role as ‘Waheeda’.
Fardeen Khan, who is making his return to the big screen after many years, received a payment of Rs. 75 lakhs for portraying the character of ‘Wali Mohammed’ in the web-series.
Richa Chadha and Manisha Koirala were both compensated with a sum of Rs. 1 crore for their roles in “Heeramandi”. Richa Chadha portrayed the character of ‘Lajjo’, while Manisha Koirala played the role of ‘Mallikajaan’ in the series.
