The latest episode of Navya Naveli Nanda’s podcast, “What The Hell Navya,” created quite a buzz as it featured Jaya Bachchan, Shweta Bachchan, and Navya discussing friendships. Shweta Bachchan expressed her view that parents cannot be friends with their children. However, both Jaya and Navya disagreed with her. This conversation has since become viral on social media platforms.
Shweta Bachchan Gets Into A Debate With Mother Jaya Bachchan
Shweta Bachchan said, “I don’t understand this ‘parents are friends’ aspect that everyone is aspiring to these days. My children are my children and my friends are my friends. I will not talk to my children about certain things I talk to my friends about. I don’t know why everyone likes to say, ‘My daughter or son is my best friend.’”
Jaya Bachchan reacted to this and said, “It’s not like that, Shweta. But why can’t your children be your friends? After a certain age, your children can be your friends.” Shweta replied, “No, mama. There’s always that thing, you’re always a parent. You don’t have that… you know… I think if they gave me a piece of their mind, I may listen to it. I may be resentful to it because I’ll be like ‘You are my child. What do you know?’”
Navya joined the conversation and remarked, “For example, the two of you.” Shweta countered, “We’re not friends.”
Responding to this, Navya said: “But now you’re a parent and she’s a parent, so you both can be friends because you both are parents.” Shweta disagreed, saying, “No, but we’re not friends. She’s my mother. There are certain lines I won’t cross with her. That’s the whole point of friends. It’s a break from family. It’s an alternate family.”
Navya remarked, “But family members can also be friends.” Jaya chimed in, saying, “Of course.” Shweta interjected, “I don’t agree with it.” Jaya emphasized that Navya is her friend and remains honest with her. However, Shweta disagreed, stating that they simply spend a lot of time together and Navya cannot be completely honest with Jaya.
