In a surprising turn, Shoaib Malik, Pakistan’s former cricket captain and ex-husband of tennis sensation Sania Mirza, announced his marriage to Pakistani actress Sana Javed in Karachi on January 20. While speculations about the status of Sania and Shoaib’s relationship had been circulating for a while, the couple remained tight-lipped.
Now, Sania Mirza’s father, Imran Mirza, has addressed the situation.
Reacting to Shoaib Malik’s third marriage, Imran Mirza informed PTI that “it was khula,” indicating the application of the right of a Muslim woman to unilaterally divorce her husband under Sharia law.
Rumors about the couple’s strained relationship had been circulating since 2022, leading to further speculation about a potential split. Recently, Shoaib Malik unfollowed Sania Mirza on Instagram, adding fuel to the ongoing rumors. In response, Sania shared a cryptic post discussing the challenges of marriage, divorce, and life choices.
Shoaib Malik took to Instagram to share the first official pictures of his wedding with Sana Javed, expressing gratitude with the caption,
“Alhamdullilah. And We created you in pairs.” The couple got married in 2018 and has a 5-year-old son named Izhaan, who resides with Sania.
Sana Javed, the Pakistani actress and now Shoaib Malik’s wife, was previously married to Umair Jaiswal in 2020 but got divorced in 2023. Known for her roles in popular drama serials and Pakistani films, Sana Javed brings her own story to this new chapter in Shoaib Malik’s life.
