Bollywood’s most popular filmmaker of all time Karan Johar aka KJO often makes headlines for several reasons. The filmmaker, who is famous for being a rival of ‘Queen’ actress Kangana Ranaut, had once confessed that he ‘almost ruined’ Anushka Sharma’s career.
Karan, who is known as a flag bearer of nepotism in Bollywood had told Aditya Chopra not to cast Anushka in the film ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi,’ which later turned out to be blockbuster at the box office.
‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ features Anushka Sharma and superstar Shah Rukh Khan in prominent roles.
In her debut movie, Anushka plays a married woman who falls in love with her husband ‘Surinder Suri Sahni,’ who disguises himself as a funny guy Raj Kapoor to woo his wife.
Karan Johar desperately wanted Sonam Kapoor to star in ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ opposite SRK and had reluctantly watched the film. However, the filmmaker was later impressed by Anushka’s performance in Band Baaja Baaraat opposite Ranveer Singh and wanted to apologize to her.
Anushka Sharma’s stepped into Bollywood in 2008 with her super hit debut film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi opposite Shah Rukh Khan and there was no turning back for the actress.
Directed by Aditya Chopra, the film went on to earn over Rs. 150 crores after its release.
Anushka Sharma, who played one of the lead roles in Karan Johar’s film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, accompanied the filmmaker and Aishwarya Rai during the 18th MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2016.
Back then, speaking of how he judged Anushka by her looks, Karan Johar told Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra during an on-stage interaction that he
“totally wanted to, completely murder Anushka Sharma’s career.”
“Because when Aditya Chopra showed me her image, I was like, ‘no, no, mad or what, you signing her, you crazy! There is no need for you to sign this Anushka Sharma’. There was another lead actress at that time who I wanted Adi to sign and I was totally behind the scene sabotaging her completely. The movie also I was reluctantly watching Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi,”
the filmmaker added.
