The latest comedy-drama movie RakshaBandhan starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles was released on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan itself i.e August 11, 2022.
Aanand L. Rai’s directorial written by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon, the movie also features Sadia Khateeb, Smrithi Srikanth, Sahejmeen Kaur, and Deepika Khanna in important roles.
Raksha Bandhan is the story of Lala Kedarnath (played by Akshay Kumar), the eldest and only brother of four sisters, who runs a chaat stall for a living. He promises his widowed and ailing mother that he will not get married unless and until he gets his sisters married into good families.
The plot revolves around Lala’s efforts to get his four sisters married, while keeping his marriage with his childhood love, Sapna, on hold. Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan was one of the most-anticipated films of the year but sadly couldn’t perform well at Box-office.

Akshay Kumar
Akshay Kumar, who plays the role of Lala Kedarnath, the eldest and only brother of four sisters charged a whopping amount of 110 crores for his role according to sources.
Lala is an owner of a chaat shop who is in a relationship with his childhood love, Sapna, played by Bhumi Pednekar. He makes a promise to his unwell mother that he will not get married till he gets his sisters married into good families. Sapna supports Lala in his efforts and helps him find good husbands for his sisters.
Bhumi Pednekar
Bhumi Pednekar plays the role of Sapna, Lala Kedarnath’s lover. She has reportedly been paid Rs 4 crore for portraying the same. This is Pednekar’s second movie with Akshay Kumar after Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which was released five years ago.
“It is such a lovely coincidence that on the fifth anniversary of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Raksha Bandhan, my second movie with Akshay sir is releasing in theatres today, He has been a huge part of my career and there is so much that I have learned from him. Akshay sir has always backed me to deliver on screen and I’m grateful for the trust he has reposed in me,”
Bhumi told reporters, according to Tribune India.
Sadia Khateeb
Sadia Khateeb, who made her acting debut with Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Shikara in 2020, portrays the role of the eldest of the four sisters in Raksha Bandhan. Reportedly, Khateeb got paid Rs 75 lakh for her role.
Other Actors in RakshaBandhan
The roles of the other three sisters in the movie have been played by Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna, and Smrithi Srikanth. All three actors are making their Bollywood debut with Raksha Bandhan. While Khanna and Srikanth have reportedly paid Rs 50 lakh each, Kaur’s fee is only Rs 25 lakh.
