Arvind Kejriwal made an unwanted record by becoming the first sitting Chief Minister in India to be arrested by an agency. While we’ve seen many politicians getting arrested over the years, it’s the first time in India’s 75-year history as an independent nation that an active Chief Minister has been arrested. This is especially significant because Kejriwal is the Chief Minister of Delhi, the capital of India.
Arvind Kejriwal has been placed in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate for seven days, until March 28. The decision was made late on Friday by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, after the Delhi Chief Minister withdrew a Supreme Court plea challenging his arrest in an alleged liquor policy scam case.
The central agency requested custody of Mr. Kejriwal for 10 days, stating it required time to conclude its investigation and confront him with other arrested suspects in the case.
As the Enforcement Directorate (ED) continues to level serious allegations against Arvind Kejriwal, members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are gearing up for nationwide protests.
AAP leaders have announced protests in various parts of the country to oppose the arrest of their leader, Arvind Kejriwal. In response, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued advisories, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has closed down the ITO metro station.
Amidst the accusations against Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi liquor policy case, reports about his net worth are gaining attention. These reports claim that Kejriwal owns a lavish bungalow in Haryana and curtains worth Rs. 97 lakhs. Some even suggest that his net worth exceeds that of the country’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
