The internet often brings us stories that are strange and difficult to believe, and this recent incident from Gurgaon is no exception. A Bengaluru-based woman, Shivangi Shah, faced an unexpected hurdle while searching for a place to rent. Her relationship status became the reason for her rejection.
Renter Rejects Woman for Being in a Serious Relationship
Shivangi was turned down by a prospective renter after revealing she was in a committed relationship. The renter expressed a preference for casual hookups and sought a flatmate with similar views, deeming Shivangi unsuitable because of her “serious” boyfriend.
Viral Social Media Post Sparks Debate
Shivangi shared her unusual experience on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), posting screenshots of her conversation with the renter. The exchange quickly went viral, leaving netizens amused and bewildered.
The chat originated from a Facebook group called Flat and Flatmates (Gurgaon). Initially, the renter asked Shivangi if she had “a date.” Assuming it was a query about her move-in date, Shivangi replied, “To move in? I can either shift in the last week of December or the first week of January.”
The renter then clarified, explaining that she was inquiring about Shivangi’s relationship status. When Shivangi confirmed she was in a relationship and that her boyfriend was based in Gurgaon, the renter asked if it was a “serious” relationship. Upon learning it was, the renter rejected Shivangi, citing her preference for flatmates who are open to casual relationships.
