Famous British YouTuber Miles Routledge has stirred global outrage after making a controversial joke about launching a nuclear bomb on India during a racist rant. Here’s what you need to know about him.
Miles Routledge and the Controversy
YouTube, the world’s largest video-sharing platform with over 2.70 billion active users in 2024, recently made headlines for contrasting reasons. While Cristiano Ronaldo’s YT channel launch was celebrated after reaching 10 million subscribers in just 10 hours, the platform is also under fire due to British YouTuber Miles Routledge.
Miles Routledge, a well-known UK-based YouTuber, has sparked widespread anger after issuing a public threat to India with a nuclear bomb in one of his controversial videos. Additionally, he made insensitive comments about reincarnating as a virus to solve India’s overpopulation crisis. These remarks have outraged many, not only in India but also in African countries, where he has previously made racially offensive comments.
When I become prime minister of England, I'll open the nuclear silos as an explicit warning to any foreign power that interferes with British interests and affairs.
I'm not talking huge incidents, I'm itching to launch and atomize entire nations over the smallest infraction. pic.twitter.com/UGBKYB3pku

The Fallout
Routledge, who goes by the name “Lord Miles” to his 126,000 YouTube subscribers, faced immediate backlash on social media. After mocking Indians for their caste system, skin color, and infrastructure, many users on X (formerly Twitter) condemned his behavior. One user even issued a death threat, challenging him to visit India if he had the courage. In response, Routledge mocked the Indian accent, further inciting anger by posting memes ridiculing Indians.

Miles is a blatant liar. He always cooks shit up to get Elon bucks like most rage baiters. The account he mentioned has never said anything whatsoever about India. It seems to be engaging in the Ukraine-Russia conflict more than anything.

Income from ad sharing is tiny compared to my merch sales, I don’t care about it much. Believe it or not, I just don’t like India.
Also I can sense an Indian, he is indian. If a man online suddenly talks about ducking your mother in the first response, he’s indian. Many such…

Miles Routledge’s Taliban Connection
The controversy surrounding Miles Routledge’s nuclear threat gained more attention due to his past association with the Taliban. In 2021, Routledge, known as the “danger tourist,” traveled to Afghanistan during a Taliban invasion. Despite the chaos, he claimed to have befriended both Taliban members and NATO special forces, sharing his experiences online. In February 2023, he made another trip to Afghanistan and was detained by Taliban intelligence for eight months. After his return to the UK, Routledge described the ordeal as his “most enjoyable vacation yet” and mentioned making friends with Taliban members.
Given his controversial past and connection to the Taliban, Routledge’s recent comments about India have raised significant concern. Many Indians are demanding strict action against the YouTuber, and it remains to be seen how the British and Indian governments will handle this situation.
