Alakh Pandey, now recognized as India’s richest teacher, has a remarkable net worth of Rs. 4,500 crores. His journey, from struggling to clear the IIT-JEE exams to founding the Rs. 9,100 crore company “Physics Wallah,” is a story of determination and success.
Born on October 2, 1991, in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh, Alakh Pandey grew up in a lower-middle-class family, experiencing financial hardships early on.
His father, Satish Pandey, worked as a private contractor, while his mother, Rajat Pandey, was a teacher. Due to financial constraints, Alakh began tutoring classmates while in class six, earning Rs. 200 and traveling 5 kilometers to teach.
Though he couldn’t crack IIT-JEE, he secured a good rank in the Uttar Pradesh State Combined Entrance Examination (UPSCEE), gaining admission to Harcourt Butler Technical Institute (HBTI) for mechanical engineering. However, he dropped out in the fourth year, despite opposition, believing in a different path.
In 2014, Alakh started his YouTube channel “Physics Wallah,” where he simplified complex topics with practical teaching methods. His channel grew exponentially, amassing 12.8 million subscribers and over 265 crore views. In 2020, with the help of Prateek Maheshwari, Alakh transformed Physics Wallah into an ed-tech platform, offering resources for competitive exams like JEE, UPSC, and more.
Today, Physics Wallah is a leading destination for students preparing for exams, with Alakh earning around Rs. 7.35 crore annually and has a net worth of more than 4500 crore.
His wife, Shivani Dubey, a freelance journalist with an MSc in Chemistry, shares in his success.
Alakh’s incredible rise to becoming one of India’s youngest billionaires at 32 is an inspiring testament to perseverance and vision.
