Prithvi Shaw, though not currently part of the Indian team, still holds plenty of memories from his time as one of Indian cricket’s promising young talents. In a recent appearance on the Focused Indian YouTube channel, Shaw shared a humorous story of a prank pulled by Virat Kohli during their time together in the Indian team.
Speaking about the incident, Shaw recalled,
“During a match against England, I was in the dressing room with Ash Bhai (Ravichandran Ashwin) and Mohammed Shami. I wasn’t playing in the match, and we couldn’t hear much noise from inside. We were near the washroom when Virat bhai entered. He stared at me for a moment and asked, ‘What are you doing here? Don’t you know a wicket has fallen?’ He then told me to go check outside.”
Shaw continued, “I rushed onto the field, but it turns out that lunch had already been called 10 minutes earlier. I went out, and the field was empty. I returned to tell Virat bhai that no one was out there, and he jokingly said, ‘Tere ko yaad nahin aa raha ki lunch hai?’ (Don’t you remember it’s lunch time?).”
Shaw laughed as he recalled this lighthearted moment.

On a more serious note, Shaw also discussed his experiences of being part of the Indian dressing room, particularly with players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. “On the field, Virat bhai is all about cricket, but off it, he’s very relaxed. He enjoys having fun, especially with Rohit Sharma. They often team up to play pranks on the younger players,” Shaw added.
Shaw, who played five Tests for India, including a memorable century on debut against Bangladesh, has since faced challenges in his cricket career. His most notable setback came during the infamous 36 all-out in Adelaide, and he has not featured in Tests since, with Australian bowlers having exploited weaknesses in his technique.
Over the years, Shaw has faced criticism for his lack of consistency and the chaos surrounding his personal life, which has hindered his return to form despite his undeniable talent. His career hit another low when he went unsold in the 2025 IPL auction, surprising many given his potential. Though he had notable seasons with Delhi Capitals, especially alongside Shikhar Dhawan, Shaw’s relationship with then-coach Ricky Ponting soured, further complicating his career path.
This lighthearted story from Shaw’s past highlights the camaraderie in the Indian dressing room and offers a glimpse into the lighter side of the intense cricketing world.
