Sonu Nigam, one of Bollywood’s most iconic singers, known for his melodious voice and candid opinions, has sparked a fresh debate with his remarks on AR Rahman’s compositions in the 2008 film Yuvvraaj. Despite having collaborated successfully with the music maestro on hit tracks like Satrangi Re and Saathiya, Sonu admitted that he found the songs from Yuvvraaj disappointing.
In a recent interview with O2 India, Sonu openly criticized the track Shano Shano, calling it “average” and refusing to offer false praise.
“That song is pretty average. It wasn’t such a good song. Let’s not talk about it. I won’t be able to lie. I won’t be able to praise a bad song.”
He went on to state bluntly that the film’s entire album was subpar, saying, “Iske saare gaane bekaar the.” Known for his honesty, Sonu asked the interviewer to refrain from discussing the other tracks from the film, maintaining his straightforward stance.
Sonu Nigam also sang the song Shano Shano for the film. When he was asked about it, he said, it’s “pretty average” and “not such a good song.”
“Let’s not talk about it. I won’t be able to lie. I won’t be able to praise a bad song,” Sonu Nigam added. When asked about the other two songs he sang for the film, the singer replied, “Voh bhool jaiye aap. Iske saare gaane bekaar the” (Just forget about it. All the songs were bad).”
Subhash Ghai Reveals ‘Jai Ho’ Was Originally Composed for Yuvvraaj
Interestingly, filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who directed the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer, once disclosed that AR Rahman had originally composed the Oscar-winning track Jai Ho for Yuvvraaj. However, it was later excluded from the movie as Ghai felt it didn’t fit the film’s context. The song was eventually featured in Slumdog Millionaire, earning Rahman the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
