In a recent conversation, Shatrughan Sinha spoke candidly about his support for his daughter Sonakshi Sinha’s marriage to Zaheer Iqbal. Sonakshi and Zaheer, who had been in a relationship for seven years, got married on June 23, 2024. Despite rumors suggesting that her parents were unhappy with the union, Shatrughan clarified the situation in an interview.
Shatrughan Sinha addressed the speculations about his daughter’s wedding, emphasizing that their marriage is neither illegal nor unconstitutional. He expressed his unwavering support, stating,
“This is a matter of marriage… Secondly, if the kids got married, it is not illegal and unconstitutional. They did it with their own wishes and our blessings. So I appreciate it. Who will stand with my daughter if I don’t… My wife Poonam Sinha and I, got together to celebrate her wedding. This is about their happiness.”
The veteran actor also described Sonakshi and Zaheer as a perfect match, sharing his belief that parents always prioritize their children’s happiness. He added,
“Parents will always stand for their children’s happiness and I feel that our children are happy. I call them made for each other, and we are very happy for them.”
Sonakshi and Zaheer’s interfaith marriage took many by surprise, with some online critics labeling it as “Love Jihad.” Despite the backlash, the couple remained silent, with Sonakshi disabling the comment section on her wedding photos.
Zaheer Iqbal also shared his experience of asking Shatrughan for Sonakshi’s hand in marriage. He revealed that although he was initially nervous, the veteran actor quickly made him feel comfortable, and their conversation led to a friendly bond.
