Despite some reports suggesting he wasn’t initially pleased with her interfaith marriage to Zaheer Iqbal, Shatrughan has proven his unwavering support for his daughter. By sharing photos and videos from the wedding, he demonstrated that Sonakshi is his cherished daughter who deserves all happiness.
In response to critics of Sonakshi’s interfaith marriage, Shatrughan Sinha referred to it as the ‘Wedding of the Century’. He expressed his gratitude for the support and love they received, saying:

Shatrughan Sinha also shared a video capturing the Hindu rituals from the wedding. The video features Shatrughan, his wife Poonam Sinha, Sonakshi, and Zaheer in a traditional ceremony led by a pandit. The ritual appeared to be a modern version of the kanyadan, a significant Hindu wedding tradition.
Despite facing online trolls and protests, Shatrughan Sinha defended his daughter’s choice. He emphasized that Sonakshi and Zaheer married in a civil ceremony without changing their religious beliefs. Citing the famous line, “Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna,” he stated that his daughter did nothing illegal or unconstitutional and that marriage is a personal decision beyond public scrutiny.
Shatrughan expressed his happiness for Sonakshi and Zaheer, comparing it to his own enduring marriage to Poonam Sinha. He highlighted that just as he married the most beautiful girl 44 years ago, it was now Sonakshi’s turn to marry the man she loves.
