Riddhima Kapoor, daughter of Bollywood legends Neetu and Rishi Kapoor, has recently found herself at the center of a controversy following a comment made in an interview. While discussing her concerns about protecting her daughter, Samara, from the toxicity of social media, Riddhima made a remark that has drawn significant backlash online. Her suggestion that online trolls could be “house helps” was quickly labeled as classist by many.
A clip from the interview went viral on Reddit, where it sparked widespread debate. Many viewers were shocked by what they felt was an offhand and dismissive attitude towards online harassment, with her comment being viewed as insensitive and elitist.

In the same interview, Riddhima had previously expressed her desire to keep her daughter away from social media.
Back in April, she shared that while Samara was keen to join platforms like Instagram, she wanted to shield her from its negative aspects. She urged her daughter not to let online comments affect her, emphasizing that anyone could be behind those comments—perhaps even household staff.
Riddhima’s words were, “She (Samara) wants to be on social media, but I don’t want her to. I want her off social media. But if she continues using her account, I told her not to be affected by comments. People write all sorts of things. Anyone could be posting—maybe it’s the house help, who knows?”

This particular statement triggered outrage. One Reddit user pointed out,
“Everything she said made sense until she mentioned the house help. It came off as classist, implying that house help shouldn’t be on social media or that trolls come from a lower class. She doesn’t seem to realize the ingrained class hierarchy in her thinking.”

Another commenter added, “It was completely unnecessary and classist. Why use house help as an insult? It’s an honest way to make a living. I understand her concerns about her daughter, but using someone’s livelihood, which her own family may rely on, as a derogatory example is just wrong. Her casual delivery of this remark reveals deep-seated classist attitudes.”
