Ranbir Kapoor has addressed the ongoing criticism of his films Animal and Sanju, which have been accused of glorifying violence and sending the wrong message to society. The actor, who was present at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on Sunday, reacted to the backlash, acknowledging the concerns raised about the two films.
Animal, which recently made waves for its intense violence and shocking content, has faced significant criticism.
The film, often labeled misogynistic, was also praised for its box-office success, crossing the Rs 500 crore mark. Despite its commercial success, the film continues to be scrutinized for allegedly failing to convey a positive message.
Similarly, Sanju, the biopic of Sanjay Dutt, also came under fire for seemingly glorifying certain negative aspects of Dutt’s life. Responding to these criticisms, Ranbir said, “I completely agree with your opinion. As actors, this is our responsibility to bring movies that make a positive impact on society.” However, he emphasized his artistic freedom, adding, “As actors, it’s important for me to dabble in different genres and characters, and play varied roles.”
During the event, Ranbir also shared his desire to make a biopic on his legendary father, Raj Kapoor. “I have thought about it a lot. I have spoken to a lot of people about it. I have spoken to various filmmakers, including Mr. Bhansali, on how to make a film on Mr. Raj Kapoor’s life,” he revealed.
Acknowledging the challenges of creating a biographical film, he explained, “You see, a biopic is not something where you just highlight the success factor or the highs in a person’s life. You truly have to portray someone’s life honestly, showing the lows, showing the struggles, showing the relationship dynamics.”
Additionally, Ranbir expressed his excitement about collaborating with Sanjay Leela Bhansali once again for the upcoming project Love And War, looking forward to their creative partnership.
