Nayanthara, the South Indian superstar, recently made waves with her Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale, where she opened up about her personal and professional life. However, her documentary got her into legal trouble when she included a behind-the-scenes clip from a film produced by Dhanush. The fallout from this has sparked a heated legal battle between the two, and recently, they had an awkward encounter at a wedding.
At the wedding of producer Aakash Baskaran in Chennai, both Nayanthara and Dhanush were present. Despite sitting in the front row on opposite aisles, they made no effort to acknowledge each other. This marked their first public appearance since Nayanthara’s open letter criticizing Dhanush.

The producer, Aakash Baskaran, is working with Dhanush on his upcoming film Idly Kadai and also shares a friendly relationship with Nayanthara and her husband, Vignesh Shivan. While Dhanush remained focused on the event, Nayanthara interacted with other guests, visibly avoiding any direct interaction with him.
The legal clash between them escalated after Dhanush issued a demand for Rs. 10 crore in damages, citing copyright infringement for the unauthorized use of the BTS clip in Nayanthara’s documentary.
“Advice your client to take down the content infringing my client’s copyright over the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan by using the same in your client’s documentary named Nayanthara Beyond the Fairytale within 24 hours, failing which my client will be forced to initiate appropriate legal action, including but not limited to seeking damages to a sum of Rs. 10 crores against your client and Netflix India.”
In response, Nayanthara expressed her shock over the demand, pointing out that the clip was available in the public domain. She also took a jibe at Dhanush, accusing him of being disingenuous, despite his public image as a gentle person. Many of his co-stars came out in support of Nayanthara, although some saw it as a publicity stunt.
Following this, Dhanush’s legal team demanded that Netflix remove the clip within 24 hours, or face further legal action, including claims for damages. The statement read, “Advise your client to take down the content infringing my client’s copyright over the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan used in the documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale within 24 hours, failing which my client will initiate legal action, including seeking damages of Rs. 10 crore.”
