Kangana Ranaut, known for her outspoken nature and fearless opinions, recently shared her thoughts on the ‘alpha male’ concept, which gained attention following the success of Ranbir Kapoor’s film Animal. The actress emphasized that people should aspire to be like Lord Ram, embodying virtues, rather than emulating Raavan.
Kangana’s Perspective on the ‘Alpha Male’ Concept
During the promotion of her upcoming film Emergency, Kangana discussed the rising debate about the ‘alpha male’ image in society during an interview with Siddharth Kannan. She expressed concern that the term is often misunderstood and misused, leading to confusion among the younger generation. Kangana suggested that true ‘alpha males’ are figures like Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, and Arjun, who possess admirable qualities. She criticized those who, under the guise of being ‘alpha males,’ behave like Raavan, warning that such actions are ultimately self-destructive.
“People resort to becoming alpha males to fool others with their wrong deeds. Such actions might make people enjoy themselves for some time, but they will fall face down. When you don’t have an understanding of something, you want to exploit that… If you are an alpha male then why are you being Raavan? Be Ram.”
Criticism of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal
In the same interview, Kangana took issue with modern films, particularly Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, for glorifying violence and dark themes without addressing the consequences of such actions. She pointed out that these films often succeed at the box office despite promoting patriarchal values, leaving her questioning the audience’s support for such content. Kangana remarked on the lack of accountability in these narratives, citing scenes where characters wield weapons like machine guns in schools without facing any repercussions.
Kis tarah ki film hai aap dekh lijiye. Box office pe bawaal machati hai patriarchal film, oho. Dekh ke lagta hai ki kahan se nikal rahe hain yeh log taaliyan seetiyaan marne? Kulhaadi leke agar ladke nikle aur maara maar khoon sirf kulhaadi leke nikle hue hain. Na koi unko law and order pooch raha hai kuch. Machine guns leke voh school main jaate hain, jaise ki police hai hi nahi. Jaise ki uske consequences hain hi nahi.”
Responsibility of Filmmakers
Kangana further argued that contemporary films often mislead the youth by glorifying violence and hooliganism. She called on filmmakers to take responsibility for the messages they are sending, particularly given the impact these films can have on young audiences. Additionally, Kangana acknowledged the ongoing gender bias in Bollywood, underscoring the need for greater fairness and accountability within the industry.
Kangana Ranaut’s candid views on the ‘alpha male’ concept and her criticism of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal have sparked discussion about the messages being conveyed through popular films. What are your thoughts on Kangana’s perspective?
