A recent video featuring American singer and actress Selena Gomez has taken social media by storm, showing her interaction with an Indian fan who asked her to chant “Jai Shree Ram.” Known for her role as Alex Russo in the Disney series Wizards of Waverly Place, Gomez, often dubbed the “Pop Princess,” has also released a documentary titled Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, which chronicles her challenges with mental and physical health.
In the viral clip, the fan is seen posing with Gomez and requesting her to say “Jai Shree Ram,” which she repeats with a hint of confusion. The fan explains that it is a significant slogan in India, to which Gomez responds with a smile and a side hug, saying, “Aww, thank you, honey.”
The video gained traction after Pallav Paliwal shared it on his Instagram, labeling it as an exclusive encounter.
#superexclusive One of our followers met Selena Gomez and she said “Jai Shri Ram” on occasion on Diwali.”
However, fans quickly pointed out that the footage was originally recorded during the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, where Gomez donned a stylish black velvet gown with white bardot sleeves by Saint Laurent at the premiere of her film Emilia Pérez.

Despite the video’s popularity—garnering over 1.3 million views and nearly 25,000 shares on Instagram—reactions have been largely negative. Many netizens found the interaction embarrassing, with one user stating,
“Our religion doesn’t need unnecessary foreign validation. Stop embarrassing yourself and us along with you.”
The video is also making rounds on X (formerly Twitter), with comments highlighting Gomez’s indifferent response to the fan’s request.
