Junaid Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, made his acting debut with the film Maharaj in 2024. Known for his humble personality and strong screen presence, the 31-year-old actor has earned praise for his first performance. However, Junaid recently admitted in an interview that being Aamir Khan’s son played a major role in him landing the film.
In a conversation with NDTV Yuva, Junaid spoke candidly about his starkid privilege. He shared that while he had been auditioning for various roles, including his father’s movie Laal Singh Chaddha, his background helped him secure Maharaj. Despite his father’s approval of his audition for Laal Singh Chaddha, the film’s high budget didn’t allow for a newcomer like him to take on the lead role.
Junaid was open about the fact that his family connections helped him. He stated,
“But I will also admit ki if I was not Aamir Khan’s son, I would probably not have gotten Maharaj.”
Despite this acknowledgment, he emphasized his passion for acting and the hard work he put into preparing for the role.
He also spoke about his parents’ reaction to his debut. Junaid revealed that while his mother, Reena Dutta, was more critical, his father was easier to please and thoroughly enjoyed watching his son’s first film. Aamir, despite his vast experience in the industry, was nervous about Junaid’s debut but remained calm throughout the process.
“They weren’t anxious; they were happy for me. They’re not generally anxious people, having been in the industry for so long and experienced it all. Their calmness actually helped me with everything surrounding the film. They both enjoyed it. Dad liked it a lot. He’s an easy audience who goes in wanting to enjoy what he sees.”
Junaid Khan’s next project, an untitled film co-starring Sai Pallavi, has already completed filming in Japan, and he also has another project lined up with Khushi Kapoor.
What do you think about Junaid’s honest revelations about his starkid privileges.
