In the relentless pursuit of online fame, some individuals resort to actions that ignite debates over decency and public conduct. A recent instance involves a Kolkata-based model, Sannati Mitra, who shared a video of herself dancing in a white towel at the iconic India Gate on International Men’s Day.
Viral Video Sparks Backlash
Sannati Mitra’s Instagram video, set to the Bollywood classic Mere Khwabon Mein from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, quickly went viral, garnering over two lakh views within hours. Her caption read,
“Happy International Men’s Day. May you all continue to inspire and motivate others with your courage, kindness, and empathy.”
However, the video, featuring her partially removing the towel at one point, drew widespread criticism. Viewers expressed outrage at her choice of India Gate, a monument of historical significance, as the location for such a display. Many deemed it inappropriate and disrespectful, especially considering the presence of an uncomfortable crowd, including children.
Reactions Pour In
Social media was flooded with comments condemning her actions, accusing her of crossing boundaries for fleeting fame. While some called her behavior attention-seeking, others highlighted the disrespect shown to a revered public space.
Not Her First Controversy
This isn’t the first time Mitra has faced public backlash. During Durga Puja festivities, she posted a photo with two friends in revealing outfits, which traditionalists criticized as disrespectful to the cultural and religious significance of the occasion. Mitra defended her actions, calling the post “rebellious” and an attempt to challenge societal norms about women’s bodies.
“It was so Rebellious ,we never thought it was possible, being a girl we always knew our body is “BAD” but life is like that it gives new examples and experiences.”
Divided Opinions
Despite the criticism, Mitra claims her recent video was a tribute to men’s courage, kindness, and empathy. However, many argue that her approach detracted from the intended message.
