Diljit Dosanjh has made history as the first Punjabi artist to perform on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show, captivating the audience with his hit songs “G.O.A.T” and “Born To Shine.” Concluding his performance, he proudly declared, ‘Main hu Punjab’.
Diljit Dosanjh’s debut on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon marked a significant milestone.
He performed his popular tracks to a thrilled audience, with Fallon introducing him as ‘the biggest Punjabi artist on the planet’ and encouraging fans to catch his Dil-Luminati music tour across North America.
Dressed in traditional Punjabi attire, including a matching turban and a pleated fan, Diljit embodied his cultural roots. After his energetic performances, he paused to sing “Mein hu Punjab” from his film Amar Singh Chamkila with Imtiaz Ali. An impressed Fallon joined him on stage, exclaiming,
“That is how you do it!”
Diljit playfully responded by rolling his mustache. He also tweaked the lyrics of ‘GOAT,’ pointing at Fallon and singing,
“Hollywood vich jine stars hai unade vich baitha sardar goriye,”
replacing the original reference to Bollywood and the Khans.
After announcing his appearance on Instagram a week ago, Diljit briefly discussed his plans and feelings about this achievement in an interview with Raj Shamani. He shared,
“I don’t know how I feel, I will maybe feel it when I am there. Let’s go see first what happens there. I have watched Jimmy Fallon’s show before. I am going there for a musical act, we will perform a song.”
He added,
“I haven’t yet thought about what song to perform. I will decide that onboard a plane to the USA. I have a long list of shows I want to appear on. I have planned a lot of things, let’s see if I can achieve all that in this life. I just had one dream: to become extremely famous and become a singer. This kept growing and it happened. I was quite young when I had this in mind. I had a strong feeling about it and always prayed, ‘God, I don’t want to know anybody, but let the entire world know me’.”
Sharing the news on Instagram, Diljit wrote,
“PANJABI AAGYE OYEE😎 This Week’s Guest.”
Previously, Diljit made history by becoming the first Punjabi artist to perform at Vancouver’s BC Place stadium in April. In 2023, he also performed at Coachella, again making history as the first Punjabi artist to do so.
Diljit, last seen in The Crew, is currently gearing up for the release of Jatt and Juliet.
