In a recent interview, Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal shared a fun insight into the app’s famously flirty notifications, revealing that he sometimes draws inspiration from messages he writes to his wife, Grecia Munoz. During an appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show alongside Grecia, Goyal confessed that some of the notifications that make Zomato users blush were actually inspired by texts meant for his wife. When he finds these messages clever, he often forwards them to Zomato’s marketing team as ideas for app notifications, much to the delight of the audience.
Appearing on the show with prominent guests Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murthy, Deepinder also humorously explained that he once asked the marketing team to build a “relationship” with customers, which they interpreted quite literally—leading to the flirty style Zomato is known for. The episode’s promo showcased some of these amusing notifications, which resemble light-hearted exchanges between a couple, adding to the charm of the app’s messaging style.
In another lighthearted initiative, Deepinder and Grecia recently joined Zomato’s delivery team for a day, surprising customers with their hands-on approach. The couple, dressed in delivery attire, took to the streets to deliver orders and gain insights into the work of Zomato’s frontline team. According to Goyal, the experience was fun, especially watching the surprised reactions from customers.
Deepinder’s marriage to Grecia Munoz, a Mexican model who relocated to India last year, has also attracted attention. The couple married in early 2024, with Grecia reportedly adopting the name “Gia” after their wedding. Goyal was previously married to Kanchan Joshi, a mathematics professor, and shares a daughter, Saira, with her.
