Samay Raina is recognized for his dark humor, though he hasn’t officially labeled his comedy as such. His recent roast of Kusha Kapila, particularly focusing on her divorce, gained significant attention. Kusha, taken aback by the personal nature of the jokes, disclosed she was unaware her personal life would be targeted. Raina, in turn, explained that this style of comedy is his niche and acknowledged he is still learning and evolving.

He expressed his continuous effort to improve, drawing from personal experiences to write his material. He stated:
“Yeh mera zone of comedy hai bhai. Ab mai galtiya bhi karta hoon usme ek do baar hua hai people have felt offended by my jokes. Jaise abortion ka hua tha. In that everytime I learn from it and I am trying to be better. I am not perfect. Nobody is, mai bas seekhta hoon or better karta hoon. Apna material likhta hoon karta hoon try, logo ko pusund aata hai, pyaar dete hai. Jab tk chal raha hai paisa kamao, jindagi chal rahi hai.”
When Kusha Kapila revealed she had no idea that the jokes would be personal Kusha Kapila, deeply affected by the roast, initially tried to ignore it but faced rumors suggesting she was paid to endure the insults. She clarified that the roast was done in good faith and for a friend, but regretted not reviewing the script beforehand. Reflecting on the experience, she noted the importance of establishing boundaries, particularly for female guests, and shared her thoughts:
“Friends, a recent roast I was a part of has led a lot of my female and queer followers to question why did I sit through something that could have been completely avoided and WITH GOOD REASON. here’s my two cents, it was done in good faith and for a friend. Nobody has been paid (neither comics nor guests) for it. So the argument that people are “being paid big fat cheques to hear their insults” is baseless.”
Kusha also mentioned that had she prevented the episode from airing, she would have been labeled as overly sensitive. She described the experience as a learning opportunity and stressed that she chose silence to maintain her mental peace.
Kusha ‘begged’ them to censor Samay Raina’s jokes on her Kusha revealed her efforts in negotiating the content of the roast, even begging for certain jokes to be censored due to their deeply personal nature. She pointed out that the roast happened only a year after her separation from Zorawar, making the content particularly painful. She shared:
“Last six months since the episode was shot, I have been a part of various calls and negotiations for every word, every joke, every slur (literal begging has happened). If I hadn’t let the episode go live, I would have been called a coward and a crybaby and a different kind of trolling would have ensued.”
