Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem made history by clinching the gold medal at the Paris Olympics with an outstanding throw of 92.97 meters on his second attempt, setting a new Olympic record.
Although he surpassed the 90-meter mark again on his final throw, it was his second throw that secured him the top position, making him the first Pakistani athlete to win Olympic gold.
This achievement is Pakistan’s fourth Olympic gold overall, with the previous three won in hockey, and it ends the nation’s long medal drought since the 1992 Barcelona Summer Games.
On the other hand, India’s Neeraj Chopra earned the silver medal with a throw of 89.45 meters, finishing second to Nadeem.
Despite entering the competition as the defending champion, Neeraj was outshone by Arshad Nadeem’s remarkable performance.
Arshad and Neeraj share a strong friendship, both on and off the field, often expressing mutual respect and admiration. Before the Olympics, Neeraj had voiced concern when he learned that Arshad was having difficulty obtaining a new javelin, saying,
“It’s hard to believe he’s struggling to get a new javelin. Given his credentials, this shouldn’t be an issue at all. Arshad is a top javelin thrower, and I’m sure javelin makers would be more than happy to sponsor him and provide what he needs.”
After Arshad’s gold medal victory, his earlier comments about Neeraj resurfaced and quickly gained attention. In an interview, Arshad had said,
“My message to Neeraj Chopra is that our friendship will continue to grow, and I hope people remember us fondly.
” Neeraj Chopra ko mera message yhi hai ki humari dosti aage take bhi chale aur ache lafzo se log hume yad kare,”
Pakistan has not won any Olympic medal for the last 32 years. Now straight to Gold 🥇..
