Jasprit Bumrah is one of the best bowlers in world cricket, in the shorter formats of the game. He came to limelight after his good performances for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and was soon picked by the national selectors to play for India.

Bumrah has an unorthodox action but his accuracy and control is impeccable. In the last couple of years, he has worked very hard on his bowling and fitness and established himself as one of the best fast bowlers in the world, in ODIs and T20Is.

On the basis of the his good work in limited overs cricket, Jasprit Bumrah was picked in the Test squad for the South Africa series. It’s a big move by the selectors because South Africa is one of the toughest destinations to play Test cricket and young cricketers often get under pressure.

In the first match of the series at Cape Town, Bumrah was given his Test cap and it came as a but of surprise for the fans because the experienced pros Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav are also present in the squad.

India’s fast bowling spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar started the innings and series in the most emphatic manner by taking three quick wickets with the new ball. He bowled in his trademark style and swung the ball both ways with a very little change in his wrist position.

Bumrah, on the other hand, struggled to get going in his first spell and leaked runs. He bowled either too short or too full and got punished by AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis. But, Virat Kohli persisted with him and it paid.

Jasprit Bumrah took the crucial wicket of AB de Villiers and broke the dangerous partnership between him and Faf du Plessis. De Villiers was trying to drive the ball on the rise but it came in a little and took the inside edge of De Villiers’ bat to hit the stumps. This is how Bumrah got his first fish in test cricket and you got to say that it was one of the biggest in the sea.
