Urfi Javed Criticizes Soni Razdan’s ‘Middle-Class Upbringing’ Remarks
Urfi Javed has often been noted for her unconventional clothing choices, sparking various reactions from the public. Recently, she made headlines after responding to Soni Razdan’s comments about her middle-class upbringing. Soni Razdan, in a recent interview, shared an anecdote about not having enough money to purchase three business class tickets, opting instead for economy class for her daughters.
This statement did not sit well with Urfi Javed. She took to Instagram to share a screenshot of Razdan’s remarks, expressing her frustration over what she perceived as an unnecessary glorification of poverty.
“Can we stop hyping poverty? Having your children travel in the economy is not middle-class parenting. Having money or spending it is not a bad thing,”

Soni Razdan had recounted an incident where, due to financial constraints, she bought economy class tickets for her daughters while she traveled in first class. She also mentioned living in a two-bedroom apartment in Mumbai in 2004 and seeing financial improvement after Mahesh Bhatt became a producer. Razdan expressed pride in giving her children a middle-class upbringing despite having certain luxuries like a car and a driver.
“Once we were going to Dubai and I did not have money to buy three business class tickets. I told my children, I will travel in first class and both of you will travel in economy. When I went to see them, a woman sitting right in front of them had reclined her seat, due to which the children were not able to sit properly,” said Razdan.
“We used to live in a two-bedroom apartment in Mumbai in 2004. Money started coming in after Mahesh Bhatt became a producer. I am happy that my children have received a middle-class upbringing, just like I have brought them up. My husband had a car and a driver who used to drop him to work. I had a Jane (car) which I used to drop and pick up my children from school,”
Soni further said.
Urfi Javed’s critical response highlights a broader discussion on the portrayal of financial struggles and the true essence of middle-class values.
