Men in blue and South African players are giving a tough competition to each other in the ongoing ODIs. This ODI tournament was very interesting and was a treat for cricket lovers but seems like it wasn’t that good for South African spinner, Imran Tahir.
Imran Tahir, who was not the part of the playing squad this ODI but he was the 12th man, was racially abused by the Indian fan when he was performing his duties.
Mohammed Moosajee, the team manager said,
“My understanding from Imran’s perspective is that he was racially and verbally abused by a certain gentleman throughout the match. He reported to stadium security stationed in front of the dressing room and two of the security personnel accompanied him to identify the perpetrator.”
He further added:
“According to what Imran said, it was an Indian fan.”
Well, the complete incident took place at the passageway which connected the field with the South African dressing room. Imran said that an Indian fan kept on commenting on him whenever he passed that passageway. Instead of dealing with him directly, Imran approached the security staff and informed him about the Indian fan. The security guard along with two other guards went to the Indian fan and got him ousted from the cricket stadium. The abuse was only verbal, no physical contact was made between Tahir and the fan.
It was also confirmed by Mohammed Moosajee:
“…when he (Tahir) got up there, there was some hostile verbal exchanges. And to neutralise the situation, they removed him from the scene and brought him back to the changing room. So that’s what we’ve been told. There were definitely no (physical) exchanges and no children involved in the incident as has been reported on social media.”
After further investigations by the cricket South African with the stadium security teams, the board has accepted what Tahir has told is right.
“From his side, he hasn’t done anything untoward. He had reported it to the stadium security and he was up there just to identify the suspect.”
In the video below, South African spinner, Imran Tahir can be seen indulging himself in an argument with the Indian fans. Have a look:
Imran Tahir, after this incident took to twitter to thank his fans who supported him and showed him love:

We just wish that the proper actions are taken against the abusers.
