Gilu Joseph, the model who is also an actress was seen on the cover page of Malayalam magazine Grihalakshmi. In the cover photo she can be seen breastfeeding the child.This initiative was part of a campaign to end the stigma attached to breastfeeding.

Although, a complaint has been filled a Kollam court and the Kerala State Child Rights Commission against the magazine for feature a model breastfeeding the baby on it’s cover page without covering her breasts.

The complaint has been filed by Advocate Nobel Mathew in the Kollam Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court against the model and the magazine.

“The case was filed yesterday before the CJM Kollam for offence under sects 3 and 4 of Indecent Representation of Women Act,” Mathew told one of the leading newspapers.

The hearing of the case will be on March 16.

The magazine ‘Grihalakshmi’ is a sister publication of Leading group ‘Mathrubhumi’. The Joint Managing Director of MAthrubumi group, MV Shreyams Kumar said that it was done for cheap publicity only.

However, he also said that they have not received any notice from the court on the matter.

Another complaint has also been filed before the Kerala State Commission for Child Rights.

Although, the commission chairman Shobha Koshy, said it was only ‘fake feeding’ and they denied any violation of Child Rights.

When the model was asked if any action has been taken on the matter, she said “We will look into the complaint”.

 Not just Gilu Joseph but another 23-year old model, who is a housemaker was also seen breastfeeding her one and half year old baby in a similar way.

In the month of January, Amrita’s husband shared the photo on his facebook to end the stigma on breastfeeding.

Gilu Joseph dedicated the picture to all the mothers who want to breastfeed their child openly.When asked in an interview said :

“I will happily accept and celebrate all the possible criticism which would come in the name of this campaign and the pictures,” 

She added:

“Every mother should celebrate their motherhood. When I was called for the shoot, I had no hesitation. Do you think unmarried women cannot pose for breastfeeding shoots,” 

Joseph stressed on the situation where there is a need of breastfeeding the child in public, she said :

“if you are in a public place, do not worry to feed your child”.

Although, the pictures of the models breastfeeding their child have raised a social debate on the social media. Many activists have started sharing their views on the matter.While some are supporting the cause, on the other hand others are are against it.
