Apple has revolutionised the smartphones with its iPhone. It is, arguably, the best gadget of its segment and has the most loyal user base. Over the years, we have seen Apple enjoy the luxury of being the best smartphones manufacture in the world and it only gets better every year.
The founder of Apple, Steve Jobs was a perfectionist and, for him, it was not just about making money and becoming the richest person in the world. Right from the beginning, Jobs created products that became champions of their segments. He started it with desktops and showed the world that even computers could look ‘sexy’.
Similarly, he designed iPods that became the most trending gadget in the world. It was so easy and good that everybody wanted to own it. After Sony’s walkman, Apple’s iPods was the most loved gadget for music lovers.
But, if we have to list the most successful Apple product, it has to be iPhone. Smartphones is one of the most competitive market in India and around the world. And still, Apple has managed to stay way ahead of its competitors, in terms of technology and design.
In this post, we will tell you the meaning of the ‘S’ in Apple iPhone 3GS, 4S, 5S and 6S.
S in iPhone 3GS stood for speed. It was the fastest smartphone of its time and it changed the way consumers used internet and other data services on smartphones. iPhone 3GS was a game changer in terms of speed and this is the reason why ‘S’ stood for speed in that model.
In iPhone 4GS ‘S’ stood for Siri. Siri is one of Apple’s best and exclusive features that allows its users to operate the phone by giving command to a robotic system called Siri.
Tim Cook gave a definitive answer to this question at the 2012 All Things Digital conference (answering a question about how Apple names products):
“If you keep the same [industrial design], like in the case of the 4S…, we kept the 4, but put an S on there to denote a difference… We were thinking of Siri when we did it. For the 3GS we were thinking of speed.”
Apple iPhone 5S
Apple iPhone 5GS was the game changer in smartphones’ security and this is why S in 5S stands for security. Touch ID was introduced for the first time in smartphones and it was introduced keeping in mind the amount of data people started storing in their smartphones. It was a great move by Apple to provide more security to its iPhone users.
Apple iPhone 6S
The “s” in the iPhone 6s stood for “screen”. The 3D touch in iPhone 6S is multitouch made multidimensional. With it you can press deeply to launch actions instead of apps, reply to notifications, preview messages and links, switch keyboards, switch apps, animate Live Photos, vary stroke width, and more.
