Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s wedding is one of the most talked about events of 2017, in India. Virat and Anushka aka Virushka got married in Italy and it was one of the most beautiful weddings we have ever seen.

While fans and media were bowled over by the pictures and set up, a BJP MLA Pannalal Sakya, from Madhya Pradesh, questioned the couple’s patriotism and criticised them for not marrying on their home land, land where Lord Rama got married.

“In this country, Ram, Krishna, Vikramaditya, and Yudhisthira got married. And you people might have also married in this country or would get married. But no one among us goes abroad like he has gone. He (Kohli) earned his money and fame in India and took all of it abroad,” Panalal Sakya said.

This is one of the most bizarre statements of the years because choosing a beautiful destination which is far away from the reach of fans and media, has nothing to do with “patriotism”.

Virat Kohli is the captain of Indian Cricket Team and he has made India proud on numerous occasions with his bat and other cricketing skills. When the whole world is hailing Virat as the greatest batsman of his generation, our own law makers are questioning his patriotism.

Another BJP leader, Rafiq Wani, decided to come into the limelight by questioning Virushka’s choice of honeymoon destination, he said:

“We have such a huge country of 125 crores citizen, if he wanted to get married he could have got married here. There is no issue that he has got married in abroad, it is his choice but for a honeymoon the most beautiful place which is called ‘Heaven on Earth’ is Kashmir. So they should have had their honeymoon here. Then our tourism would have gotten a boost also.”

Expectedly, Twitterati gave some brilliant replies to those who questioned Virat Kohli’s patriotism.

Gautam Gambhir’s former teammate Gautam Gambhir also stepped into the matter and gave a solid piece of advice to the law makers.

“It is completely their personal matter and choice and nobody should comment on this. Politicians should be more careful while making such comments,” Gautam Gambhir said
