A very shocking incident happened during a music festival in New Zealand when a man ran towards a woman who was only wearing glitters on her chest, and groped her. The video was shot by a woman who was also present at the festival.
The festival is a popular destination for New Year’s Eve revellers, branding itself the “first place in the world to welcome the first sunrise of the new year”.
As soon as that man groped her and ran back towards the place he was seating, that woman and her friend spotted her and slapped him many times on his face and head.
It is shocking because such behaviour promotes rape culture and usually, we don’t expect such incidents to happen in a broad-minded nation like New Zealand, where people respect each other’s freedom of expression and clothing.
The video has divided public opinion, with some criticising the woman both for going topless and responding with violence.
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, the woman explained that she does not regret her actions and hopes the clip will inspire women to stand up for themselves and feel confident in their own skin.
“I stand by my actions and hope that I’ve inspired women to feel comfortable in their bodies, no matter how they look, and to stick up for themselves when anybody says otherwise or tries to deny you the right to protect your own body,” she said.
Later, she also posted a video and defended her action.
“My lack of clothing is not the problem. The problem is is people thinking they have the right to touch my body without my permission,” she said.
“Comments stating that I was asking for it or that I had it coming are promoting rape culture. When you say something like that you are justifying their actions.”
“When he violated my right to my own body. I demand my self respect.”
