Social media is abuzz with outrage after Swiggy Instamart was accused of delivering vegetables significantly underweight compared to what was promised. A Reddit user brought this issue to light by weighing the items received and sharing the findings online.
Customer’s Discovery on Swiggy Instamart
The issue surfaced when a customer, shocked by the discrepancy, weighed the cauliflower delivered through Swiggy Instamart. Despite the app specifying a weight range of 400 to 600 grams, the cauliflower only weighed 145 grams.
The user’s suspicions led them to weigh all the vegetables they received. “Most of the vegetables were underweight,” they claimed in their Reddit post, accusing Swiggy of running a scam. They reported similar discrepancies in the weight of other items, with all falling short of the promised quantity.
Further testing revealed notable inconsistencies:
- Capsicum: Delivered 170 grams instead of the purchased 250 grams.
- Potatoes: Delivered 965 grams instead of 1 kilogram.
After paying for 1.8 kg of vegetables, the customer found they had received only 1.2 kg in total.

Swiggy Instamart’s Response
When the issue was reported to Swiggy’s customer support, the response left the customer dissatisfied. Despite providing images of the weighing scale as proof, the user was offered a partial refund of ₹89 instead of the ₹177 requested. Attempts to escalate the issue yielded similar responses, with staff unwilling to provide a full refund.
In frustration, the customer labeled Swiggy’s escalation team and support staff as “shameless.” Taking matters further, they contacted their bank to reverse the transaction and lodged a complaint with the government’s Ingram consumer helpline.
Public Outrage Over Alleged ‘Deceptive Tactics’
The Reddit post sparked widespread criticism, with many users accusing Swiggy Instamart of systematic dishonesty. Some suggested that such discrepancies were not accidental but part of a deliberate strategy to shortchange customers.
“This isn’t about the refund; it’s about Swiggy’s consistent use of dishonest and deceptive practices,” one Reddit user commented. “Think about how many orders they fulfill daily and how often customers unknowingly receive underweight items.”
Another customer shared a similar experience: “I used a digital scale and noticed my items were underweight too. I accepted a 50% refund but later wondered—what about those who don’t have a scale? How widespread is this issue?”
Swiggy has yet to respond to these allegations, and updates will be shared once the company provides a statement.
