Actress Swara Bhasker criticized a netizen on Monday for posting about vegetarianism on Bakri Eid, a day of celebration for Muslims. Labeling it as ‘virtue signaling,’ Swara expressed her disapproval of the timing of the post.
The netizen, Nalini Unagar, shared a picture of her vegetarian meal on her X handle with the caption,
“I’m proud to be a vegetarian. My plate is free from tears, cruelty and guilt.”

Swara Bhasker responded strongly, arguing that vegetarianism itself involves ethical issues such as denying calves their mother’s milk, forcibly impregnating cows, and uprooting plants.
“Honestly… I don’t understand this smug self-righteousness of vegetarians. Your entire diet is made up of denying the calf its mother’s milk, forcibly impregnating cows, then separating them from their babies & stealing their milk. You eat root vegetables? That kills the whole plant! Please relax with the virtue signaling just because it’s Bakr Eid!”

In related news, Swara Bhasker, who married Fahad Ahmad on February 16, 2023, and welcomed their daughter Raabiya in September of the same year, often celebrates festivals from both Hindu and Muslim traditions. She has shared her belief in the common cultural practices that unite people despite their diverse backgrounds.
“Since our wedding, we’ve been discovering common cultural practices that both Hindus and Muslims in North India share which reinforces my belief that human beings can come from all manner of diversity but love and joy will find a common language,” she had said.
In addition to this incident, Swara has also been vocal about other issues, recently slamming a Hindi newspaper for body-shaming her post-pregnancy weight.
