In the ongoing case regarding India’s Got Latent, the Supreme Court severely criticized YouTube celebrity Ranveer Allahbadia for making vulgar remarks on Samay Raina’s show. The court described his actions as disgraceful and said such behavior should be condemned.
The court further commented that Allahbadia harbored “very dirty” thoughts which he “vomited” on the show.
Ranveer Allahbadia, a podcaster and the founder of the YouTube channel Beer Biceps had approached the Supreme Court to seek relief from the FIRs filed against him over his controversial comments. He also requested the merging of all FIRs.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh heard the matter. While the court provided temporary relief by protecting Allahbadia from arrest, it also imposed restrictions on him, barring him from airing any more YouTube shows.
The Supreme Court emphasized that “Such behaviour has to be condemned. Just because you are popular, you cannot take society for granted. Is there anyone on earth who would like this language? There is something very dirty in his mind which has been vomited. Why should we protect him?”
Justice Kant further condemned Allahbadia’s remarks, describing them as “the perverted mind.” He added,
“The words you have chosen, parents will be ashamed, sisters will be ashamed. The entire society will feel ashamed. The perverted mind. The perversion you and your henchmen have exhibited! We have a judicial system, bound by the rule of law. If there are threats (against Allahbadia), the law will take course,”
The Supreme Court also instructed Allahbadia to submit his passport and refrain from leaving the country without prior permission. Justice Kant clarified, “If any other FIR on the same set of allegations is registered in Jaipur, arrest of the petitioner shall remain stayed. The petitioner shall deposit his passport at the Thane police station. He shall not leave the country without prior permission of this court.”
This case has sparked considerable attention regarding the responsibility of content creators on public platforms.
