RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, has won several accolades throughout the world. The film and the MM Keeravani composition “Naatu Naatu,” which was awarded an Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Original Song, received the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Foreign Film and Best Song, respectively.
A video from the Roar of RRR event in Mumbai, in which Karan Johar expressed his pain at the director’s treatment of him, has gone viral in the midst of the festivities. The Hindi versions of Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion were both introduced by Johar. However, Rajamouli opted for RRR’s presentation by Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios.
At the ceremony, Karan confronted the renowned director about not granting him Hindi rights despite having supported his two prior projects. Rajamouli cheekily retorted that Dharma Productions earned millions of dollars from the two Baahubali movies but never compensated him for his efforts.
As Karan said he is “hurt and upset” because he was “chucked out” of RRR, the Baahubali director replied,
“I asked you to be the presenter of Baahubali films. You made tens and hundreds of crores with that. So, when a producer makes so much money, usually as a director, I expect some gifts, sir. And what did you give me? You called for your talk show. You gave me a phone and a Bluetooth speaker, and you wanted the rights of RRR Hindi.”
He further said with a smirk, “Sir, look at Jayantilal sir, he has promised me a sea-facing flat in Bandra after RRR is a success. Right next to your house.” He continued, “You will be shocked to know what my producer D. V. V. Danayya has promised me… 1 acre plot in Jubilee Hills.”
Karan responded with a grin saying he has always adored Rajamouli but that he now just wants “materialistic things” from him.
