Actor Sonu Sood recently opened up about his strained relationship with Kangana Ranaut, revealing that they have not been on speaking terms since their collaboration on Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Despite the professional fallout, Sood mentioned his warm ties with Ranaut’s family.
““I left Manikarnika also because Kangana is my friend. We are not on talking terms right now, but I have been very close with her family – her mother, father, and sister meet me very lovingly.”
he shared.
What Went Wrong?
Sood addressed the fallout, attributing it to misunderstandings and impulsive comments from Ranaut. “People can say whatever they want, but I’ll never speak against them. Sometimes, you act out of naivety, and maybe that’s what happened here. It’s her own thinking, and I prefer not to respond,” he explained. While he expressed disappointment, he made it clear there are no hard feelings on his part.
“People can say whatever they want, but I will never say anything against them. I might feel upset thinking, ‘This person was a good friend and said such things.’ I feel that it’s her foolishness, she is not a bad person. But sometimes, when you write or say things, you don’t actually think it through. I might have also gone through this and done things out of being naive. However, there is no regret. It’s her own thinking, I prefer not to pay heed by answering,”
Sood said.
The Manikarnika Controversy
The rift between the two actors began when Sood exited Manikarnika after Kangana took over as director, replacing Krish Jagarlamudi. Ranaut had alleged that Sood was uncomfortable working under a female director, a claim he strongly denied. He clarified that his departure was due to creative differences, not gender dynamics.
Attempts to Reconcile
Sood also revealed that mutual friends have tried to mend their relationship, but he preferred to let things be. “A mutual friend, Ajay, who is close to both of us, has tried to bring us together, but I said it’s okay. Let her be happy in her space,” he said.
“No, we have never even spoken to each other after Manikarnika. We even have a common friend Ajay, he is close to both of us. He has tried to make us meet a couple of times, but I said it’s okay, let her be happy in her space.”
As both actors move forward with their careers, Sood is currently promoting his film Fateh, while Ranaut is working on her ambitious project, Emergency. Despite the unresolved tensions, Sood maintains his focus on his work and personal growth.
