Veteran Bollywood actress Jaya Bachchan continues to enjoy immense stardom and fame today. Besides her prolific acting career, it’s her honest opinions and fearless personality that garner much attention. Jaya is known for being straightforward and expressing her opinions openly.
It is not a secret that Jaya Bachchan doesn’t like being photographed by the paparazzi without permission and often responds to them in a direct manner.
However, it appears that Jaya Bachchan’s public persona might not reflect her true character. Filmmaker Karan Johar recently shed light on an unfamiliar aspect of the veteran star’s personality during an interview on Mid-Day’s show, Sit With Hitlist. Johar, who collaborated with Bachchan for the 2023 film “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” shared insights into her personality that are not commonly known.
Karan Johar Opens Up On Jaya Bachchan’s Image Of Rude Personality
When discussing Jaya Bachchan, Karan Johar emphasized her compassionate nature, contrary to the widespread perception of her being rude and impolite. Johar reminisced about moments on the film sets where Bachchan displayed kindness towards crew members, even engaging in playful pranks. Karan said:
“I want to put this on record, Aunty J as I call her, is far from what you think she is. She is the kindest, warmest, largest-hearted person I know. My crew, if you ask them who is the favourite person on set, they would say Jaya Bachchan. She is the only person who remembered the 14 AD’s names, knew what they did, where they lived, and how many siblings they had, she cared enough for all of them. When she used to feel a crew member was overworking, she would send for samosas and mithai, or get a cake on set. People loved her.”
During the same conversation, Karan also talked about Jaya Bachchan’s disinterest in being photographed by paparazzi, a behavior of her which is often misconstrued as rudeness. Johar clarified that Bachchan is actually very relaxed and composed but becomes annoyed when photographers invade her personal space to capture pictures. He said:
“She is the warmest, kindest, most giving human being. She is so calm and composed. She would sit there on set chat, with all the ADs and she would play pranks. She is great fun. And she is nothing like this. It is just that if you put cameras in her face, she is going to get annoyed. I wish everyone would get an experience of the large heart that Jaya Aunty has. She is not like this at all.”
“Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” marked Jaya Bachchan’s third collaboration with Karan Johar after the 2001 family drama “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham” and the 2003 romantic comedy “Kal Ho Naa Ho,” which he produced and wrote. The film was directed by Nikkhil Advani.
