Team India returned to India on Thursday, having been delayed in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. Upon their return, they were greeted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, reunited with their families, and then headed to Mumbai for a grand parade along Marine Drive and a celebration at Wankhede Stadium.
Captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli proudly lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy, showcasing it to the throngs of fans lining the parade route.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah and vice president Rajiv Shukla accompanied the players on the celebratory bus. Players wrapped themselves in the Tricolour, with Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal among those donning the national flag during the victory journey.
Enthusiastic fans even climbed trees to catch a glimpse of their cricket heroes, who waved and held the trophy high in response. Rohit Sharma, along with head coach Rahul Dravid and batter Suryakumar Yadav, marked the triumph by clasping their hands together towards the sky. The team concluded their celebrations at Wankhede Stadium.
Shah Rukh Khan, beyond being one of the world’s biggest actors, is also the owner of the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders, making this victory even more special for him.
