During an appearance on Super Dancer Chapter 4 for a ‘shaadi special’ episode, Genelia became emotional when a contestant’s performance of “Maahi Ve” reminded her of her own wedding to Riteish. She revealed that during one of the wedding rituals, Riteish was required to touch her feet eight times, which was both a touching tradition and a subtle challenge to patriarchal norms. She praised the ritual, noting how it celebrated respect in the relationship.
Genelia also expressed her gratitude for the chance to experience a traditional wedding, especially in contrast to modern weddings, which she feels are often more about the celebration than the rituals.
The emotional moment continued during the vidaai, when she shared how deeply moved she was.

In Maharashtrian weddings, the practice of a husband touching his wife’s feet can sometimes attract criticism. Actor Vikrant Massey faced backlash for touching his wife Sheetal’s feet during Karwa Chauth. He acknowledged that the negative comments affected him, though he tried not to let them bother him. Similarly, Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan has openly discussed his habit of touching his wife’s feet every day, considering it an act of reverence. He even stated that he worships women and hopes to be born as one in his next life.
