The popular show Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives has been creating waves, especially with its current season featuring Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Kalyani Saha, Shalini Passi, and Maheep Kapoor. In one of the episodes, Riddhima playfully called Maheep “aunty,” sparking criticism online for alleged age-shaming. Recently, Riddhima addressed the backlash and defended her playful remark.
Riddhima Reacts to the Controversy
During an episode, Riddhima revealed her childhood crush on Sanjay Kapoor, Maheep’s husband. She shared how, as a child, she used to call him “uncle,” prompting Maheep to jokingly warn her against calling her “aunty.” However, Riddhima’s light-hearted comment didn’t sit well with some viewers, who accused her of age-shaming.
Speaking to News18, Riddhima explained that her comment was meant as a friendly tease and not an insult. She emphasized that while serious remarks about someone’s age can be offensive, her interaction with Maheep was purely in jest. Riddhima clarified:
“If someone is writing seriously that Kalyani, you know, you are looking old—that’s a serious comment. But when somebody’s pulling a friend’s leg, like I did with Maheep, it’s different. Maheep and Sanjay were actually originally my chacha’s friends, right? So if I had called her aunty, it was all in fun.”
Addressing the Trolls
Riddhima also questioned the outrage, asking why joking with friends should be taken so seriously. She revealed that she had called Maheep “aunty” to her face, and Maheep had playfully threatened to “whack her.” She added:
“Friends don’t do that? They pull each other’s leg, no? But people were like, ‘No, why are you calling Maheep aunty?’ Arrey bhai, have you never joked with your friends? That’s so stupid. Main toh muh pe bolti hu and Maheep tells me, ‘I’ll whack you’.”
