Despite delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, production began in July 2021 at Ramoji Film City. Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan later confirmed their roles in the film.
In 2023, Nag Ashwin made history by unveiling the film’s new title, ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ at San Diego Comic-Con, the first Indian film to debut its teaser there. Ashwin explained the name change aimed to merge science and mythology.
