Veteran actor Pankaj Tripathi recently weighed in on the controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent, involving Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina. During an interview, he emphasized the importance of cultural awareness and questioned the growing lack of sensibility among internet personalities.
Pankaj Tripathi on the Controversy
Speaking to SCREEN, Pankaj highlighted how internet fame often comes quickly but doesn’t always bring wisdom. He remarked:
This is the world of the internet, and every person has an opinion. The thing with the internet is that a lot of people become popular faces all of a sudden. They find name and fame, but where is the sensibility? Do they have the required intelligence, in terms of literary knowledge, social behaviour, etc? Society is a lot of things, and one needs to know the cultural value of the society we are living in.”
Pankaj also stated,
“Don’t give so much importance to all this (fame and virality). Anyone can get viral, but just like a viral illness, it will be there for a few days, and then… we move on.” “The why and how of success determines a lot of things. Of course, I am not arguing about who is right or wrong… but, if you have the power of the word, and people are influenced by what you are saying, then it is important you shoulder that responsibility with a lot of care.”
Social Media Fame: A ‘Viral Illness’
Tripathi also spoke about the fleeting nature of internet fame, comparing virality to an illness:
“We shouldn’t give too much importance to online virality. Just like a viral fever, it lasts a few days, and then life moves on. The way success is achieved matters. I am not debating who is right or wrong, but if your words influence people, you must handle that responsibility carefully.”
The Ranveer Allahbadia Controversy
Ranveer Allahbadia sparked outrage on India’s Got Latent with an inappropriate question directed at a contestant:
“Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to stop it forever?”
His remark led to widespread backlash, including police complaints against him, Samay Raina, and other judges of the show. In response, Allahbadia issued a public apology via social media.
