Navjot Singh Sidhu, along with his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu, has been served with a legal notice demanding Rs. 850 crore following their controversial claims about a natural treatment they say cured her cancer. The couple had publicly shared the alternative remedies that reportedly helped Navjot Kaur recover from stage four cancer, which they claim involved a combination of neem and turmeric.
Chhattisgarh Civil Society Takes Legal Action Against Sidhu Couple
The legal notice was issued by the Chhattisgarh Civil Society (CCS) after Sidhu’s public statement on November 21, 2024. During a press conference, Sidhu claimed that natural remedies and dietary changes had reversed his wife’s stage four cancer, despite doctors giving her only 40 days to live. According to reports from Business Times, Dr. Kuldeep Solanki, a critic of Sidhu’s statement, argued that the politician’s comments misled the public by discrediting allopathic treatments and creating a dangerous precedent.
Dr. Solanki has demanded that Sidhu provide evidence for his claims within a week, warning of legal action if he fails to do so. He further emphasized that spreading unverified information could jeopardize the health of other patients.
Sidhu’s Claims of Curing Cancer with Natural Remedies
In his press conference, Sidhu explained how he studied cancer and concluded that certain foods, such as milk, wheat, maida, and sugar, contributed to the growth of cancer cells. He stated that by eliminating these from his wife’s diet, including sugar and refined carbs, her condition improved dramatically.
“Cancer feeds on sugar, so the lifeline of cancer, ayurveda, American doctors, research in India, I read everything for 10 hours, and the common denominators, and then cutting sugar, atta, maida, aerated drinks, all of these gone. Samosa jalebi gone.”
However, these claims have faced strong backlash from the medical community. Sidhu suggested that cutting out sugar and carbohydrates could “starve” cancer cells and potentially cure them, a statement that has been criticized as dangerous. The director of Tata Memorial Hospital pointed out that such statements could mislead the public and put cancer patients at risk by encouraging them to reject conventional treatments in favor of unproven methods.
